Paul S. Waugh’s Daily Prayer – Why Aren’t We Closer to God? – 11th March, 2026

Grace and peace in Christ to you,

Father, why aren’t we closer to You than we’d like to be or ought to be?

Because we’ve fallen. It should be the easiest thing in the world, the easiest thing in the world to get close to You. Your values, Your virtues, Your laws, Your intentions, Your love, Your brilliant universal handiwork, Your creativeness, Your care, Your protections.

We should absolutely be fanatically in love with You, but not nearly as much as we ought to, not close. That’s how far from perfection and how far into sin we have fallen since birth, since our parents’ birth, since Adam and Eve, the original birth, the original creation, the birth through the womb that was Eden. It should be the one thing that comes so naturally to us, so naturally to us.

So… we’ve experienced this world, we know what it’s like, and then there You are, and yet it’s still hard work to love You, to care for You, to respect You, to want You, to revel in You, to worship You. Like that’s hard work? It’s just, it’s just… I look at myself in that and I just go, wow. You know, I started this journey eight years ago.

You’d think I would be miles ahead of where I am? No. What are You demonstrating to me, my Lord, and to everyone here on this call right now? It’s a privilege to hear this prayer because of You and You choosing them rather than the other way around. I now know, I now know that that is true.

People don’t choose You more than You choose them. You choose the people more than they choose You. There’s no way around it.

I now know that. For eight years, with my whole youth behind that, when I say my youth, my early pre-10 years or 10 up to about age 10, 11 sort of… I was very into the Bible, very into learning it. I did nothing pretty much, you know, other than sport or whatever.

I was very focused on You. I should be revelling in You more than I am and more than I have. That, how I feel about You now and see You, how I want You in my life, how grateful I am, my growing love for You, my growing gratitude for You, my growing adoration, my growing respect, my growing commitment, all encompassing, whole souled, whole mind, whole heart, whole being.

And I go, how long, why did it take me 60 years? If I was such a good man with good intentions, why did You not stick up like a boil on the end of a dog’s nose and go, my goodness, yes, that stands out. I meanout of everything. I want all my values, love was my major, always my number one value, love. Why didn’t that naturally, over decades of that being my number one value, immediately see You and find You as the absolute preeminent example and exemplar of that? No, I didn’t, did I? It shows you how far, how much we’ve fallen from grace, how few are finding the road.

How did it take me 60 years? How did it take me? Since I re-started this journey seven, eight years ago, why did it take me seven, eight, nine years to get to this point now? Why didn’t I feel this at least last year or the year before or the day I realised instead of fighting You all this time? Because of how much we’ve fallen from grace and how satanic we really are.

Father, we ask You to guide us out of this mess and into You. And we honestly, I don’t say this unthankful, at least in part, but thank You for, thank You, thank You, thank You for Your patience, for Your guidance. Because You know, Father, if you had brought an end to this system, just out of compassion for the children, 10 years ago I wouldn’t be here, nor would anyone on this call be here.

We’d be in hell just 10 years ago. For some here, far less than that. We’d be in hell right now.

And You loved us so much. You held onto this system and kept it going, knowing we would come to repentance and to an accurate knowledge of You. We thank You.

We ask You to bless this call, bless the day and everything in it. The love, the food, the protections, the perspicuity, the learning, the progress in You, for the glory of You. We pray for progress in Your name.

We ask You to forgive us for our many sins and our many shortcomings. And we ask this through Your Son, King and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
