Paul S. Waugh’s Daily Prayer – The Cost of the Cross and the Narrow Way – 4th March, 2026

Grace and peace in Christ to you,

Note: Given Paul’s longstanding ill health resulting from the multiple attacks on him, these prayers are taken from the last several years of Paul’s journey with our Lord. They are incredibly valuable to witness his ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Listen below for the prayer:

Father, we’re truly blessed by You. And the direction in which things are moving here is extremely clear. That’s Your blessing, Your will, despite us—despite us—and only because of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who gave His all to redeem us.

People say, “Well, Jesus didn’t give His life because He was resurrected.”

Father, people who say things like that are living in a hellhole in their soul, because they have absolutely no empathy, no compassion, no insight, no normality. People who can say that, whether they know it or not, are in this post-modernist, mind-bending, mind-warped, mind-controlled environment by the BBC or other legacy media, which is a mind-controlled setup globally. The irony.

“Because He died and after three days was resurrected, He didn’t give His life.” I just want to pay a little tribute to that, Father, by way of prayer.

When Jesus was born immaculately to Mary through the Holy Spirit, Mary knew from the beginning, through Scripture, who Jesus was when no one else knew—not even Joseph knew. So she knew that Jesus was born to be sacrificed as the Lamb, Your Son incarnate. Mary, Joseph, His brothers, and His followers would have to watch that, fear that, live with fear for their lives, with dread they lived. When Jesus said, “They will scourge Me, they will beat Me, they will spit on Me, they will crucify the Son of Man, they will murder Me, scorn Me, belittle Me,”…

They thought—the disciples—that You were going to be this big Messiah going and redeeming the Jews from the Romans. They had to go through the horror of realising what it truly meant. They loved You 100%, with the Spirit You gave them, directly in the flesh. What other people went through around You, Lord—and You knew, when You were close to them, that they would feel this way.

One of the hardest things You had to do was put Your mother through that, put Your family through that, put Your brothers and sisters through that, put Your greater family through that—Your disciples, Your apostles—everyone who ever loved You, Mary Magdalene, and everyone that loved You. That is horrific for You, to have to do that.

Living Your whole life knowing it ends like this—knowing that in Your early 30s, every day counting down was another day closer to it. And then people say, “Well, You didn’t sacrifice anything.” You sacrificed Your whole life—Your life with Your family, with Your mother. She had to watch You die and then come back, and then literally 40 days later, leave. She experienced that twice: once at the foot of the cross, and then 40 days later see You leave.

Father, that’s huge. Anyone who has any intimacy with family or loved ones, anyone with any experience, any maturity, or any reality in their bones can see what You gave up, what You went through, what others around You went through. Yet even back then, with all You did—the miracles, making people well, resurrecting people, preventing death, healing lepers, healing the sick, healing the blind—You revolutionised Jerusalem and Israel.

And at the end of it, there were not that many people close to You. That is astonishing. When You were here in the flesh, and people could see You, feel You, watch You work these miracles dozens of times a day all over the region, You were left with very few followers.

So when You say, “Narrow is the road and small is the gate, and few find it,” Father, it’s consistent all through Scripture. Noah—just his family got into that ark. Just Noah and the animals. He had a hundred-year ministry building a boat as the focal point of that ministry—a boat so big people couldn’t believe it. They couldn’t believe what he was doing. They saw the entire forest appear so he could build that boat You had caused to spring up overnight. All the evidence was there.

All the evidence for Jesus was there—far more evidence than what is written in the Bible: evidence in the flesh, evidence in sight, evidence in reality, evidence in the moment. Yet how many people came to You? Very few.

It is a tribute to You, our Father. We love You, respect You, and are thankful to You. Through prayers like this, we come closer to You. Everything You’ve done here—everything—whether we know it or only partly know it or not, thank You. Thank You, my Lord.

Thank You for the grace to thank You the way we are—with the depth of appreciation we are living, feeling, experiencing, and attributing to You in this wonderful grace. We ask You to forgive us for our many sins and our many shortcomings.

And we ask this through Your Son, our Father, King and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

I have literally been reading in Matthew 14, the reality of Christ’s trial and how evil those people were. So coming to this prayer… His suffering is so far beyond my comprehension but Philippians 3:10 calls me to know Him, the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings. To join with Jesus in His pain, His strife, means becoming far, far more loving than I am now. Lord, please make me so. For Your glory.

Amen. A sobering truth and reality, Christ suffered for all of us and God The Father knew from the beginning it was going to happen, that he was going to sacrifice his one and only Son for us, this needs to be not only a daily and moment by moment reminder, but a consciously chosen state of being to be immersed into that level of humility and gratitude for what has actually happened there. Thank you for sharing so deeply and by way of prayer. God bless you Paul, and us all. x x

Amen. A wonderful prayer that brings to the fore the immense sacrifices that Jesus Christ, His disciples and other Biblical patriarchs made for humanity to learn about the character of God and the promise of the Kingdom.

What God has done for us none of us can come close to understanding and knowing properly. We are so far from empathising with Him like babies trying to understand what their parents are going through for them, we have no idea. But we can try and need to from where we are and He will give us the spirit and the heart and the insight to do so. Thank you Father, please help me and us all to connect with you and appreciate with as much gratitude as possible who You are and what you have done and continue to do for us.
