Paul S. Waugh’s Daily Prayer – A Prayer On God’s Suffering – Dec 1, 2025

Good evening everyone,

Here’s today’s Daily Prayer:

Father, our modern chief, our leader, our teacher, our mentor, our coach, our counsellor, our Creator, our Redeemer, our Dad, we love you, and we grow in our love for you. And we grow in our love for you because love exists. And love exists, Father, because you exist. Without you, love would not exist. And every atheist and agnostic wants love. And you, Father, are the personification—the person—of love, the absolute sum and substance of love.

And as your Word very clearly shows, teaches, demonstrates, elicits, evokes, and directs, where there is not love—true love—where there is not love that is absolute and true, meaning not the love of a child as a father or as a mother… would you love your child if it wasn’t your child? That love. Because that is love. Would you love your enemy as a child, not your child? That love. The love that Christ showed, has shown, is showing, will show, and is the sum and substance of. And he demonstrated incarnate the self-sacrificial love.

Because, Father, as your Word demonstrates, as your Word teaches, we will know the true blues; we will know your people; we will know your body; we will know who your people are—those who have love amongst themselves. And that love that we have amongst ourselves is your love bestowed upon us. Not any human love, but supernatural, theochristological, celestial, glorious, eternal, and infinite love.

And you demonstrated that love by becoming flesh in your own right—not through us, but in your own right, not through your creation but through yourself—incarnate in the flesh, born to an imperfect woman. It is an astonishing act, an astonishing demonstration of your love. Because, Father, you could have waved your celestial finger and everything could have been forgiven and changed. But you didn’t. You demonstrated that you suffer, that no one suffers more than you, that you suffer every millisecond of every day by seeing every single bit of suffering on this earth—every child, every aborted child crying in the womb as their limbs are ripped apart alive without anaesthetic. You see it all.

This is true self-sacrificial love, Father. And people don’t realise that no one suffers more than you. No one. Not even close. Not even to a trillionth degree does anybody suffer as much as you. And no one wants that suffering to end more than you. So when you’re not ending it, it’s an act of love—at your own expense. At your own.

We have a personal relationship with you. We now need a personal relationship with your body. Everything you’ve given us, we’re using it by your decree. We ask you to guide us so we never have to say no when we ought to say yes, inside and outside our own doors, because we can only do such a mammoth, seemingly impossible task with an eternal and infinite—our eternal and infinite—Father, Creator, Commander, Chief, Ultimate Director.

We ask you to forgive our many sins and shortcomings, Father, our sinful states, all the reasons that are sinful. We ask you this fully repentant, through your gift of being able to be that repentant, through your Son Jesus Christ. In His name, Amen.

God’s grace to you,

Paul S. Waugh

Such a beautiful prayer, and exactly what I—and we—need reminding of and grounding in, constantly and consistently. God bless us all as we step into the weeks and months ahead. Thank you to Paul, and God bless. x x

This really touched me. It’s comforting to be reminded that God doesn’t stay distant from our pain but shares it with us. When life feels heavy, knowing He understands means so much. Thank you for putting this into words and helping me remember I’m not alone in what I’m carrying. 🙏

Beautiful prayer, thank you Paul. Our God is love, the source of all love and He has demonstrated to us the highest levels of love through our Lord’s sacrifice for us (His creation) on the cross. I just don’t appreciate and recognise enough how much God suffers the most and how much suffering He sees and witnesses and has all throughout human history; what we have done to ourselves and each other because of our sin and treacherous hearts. There is nothing, not one bit of pain and suffering He doesn’t see and suffer also. He sees all our wickedness and evil and offers us redemption and salvation through His own atonement for that. That is just so humbling. Praise be and all glory to God.

This is such a heartfelt and emotional prayer. This helps to reinforce that I am loved, not just by anyone, but by our Lord, our Creator, our Father.

We are His children, and He wants the best for every one of us, so much so that He sent us His one and only true Son, and sacrificed Him so that we may live.

2 Corinthians 5:22
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him

Wow. I don’t have the words, to comprehend the love of our Father. I’m sorry Father for not appreciating your constant eternal agape love. Thank you for your love Lord, please forge me to be like You in every way as Your child and servant, Amen.

God is love and His example through Christ teaches us to love our enemies. I have so much to learn and understand as at times this seems the easiest and most natural thing to do, and at others virtually impossible.

This prayer is a profound reminder of how deep God’s love truly is. It’s humbling to reflect on the extent of His suffering and His selfless love. I pray that we can all apply this more in our own lives, extending kindness and patience to others, even when it feels difficult. Thank you, Paul, for helping us slow down and see how much God gives to all of us humans. Amen.
