God Help You Catrin Nye Commentary: Part Two — Why Is the BBC Taking Us So Seriously Now?

“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” — Psalm 146:3

I have now received reports from within the BBC that my open letter, “God Help You, Catrin Nye”, is being examined directly and taken all the way from the top of the organisation: the BBC Chairman, the BBC Board, the BBC Commercial Board, the BBC Executive Committee, the BBC Editorial Standards Committee, the Head of BBC News and the Director General of the BBC: Matt Brittin. The BBC is taking this extremely seriously, with the matter now being examined from the very top to the very bottom of the organisation.

The message we are receiving is consistent and clear: the letter has landed, it is being looked at, and its seriousness is being acknowledged across the organisation.

That raises an unavoidable question.

Why now?

Why, after years of communication through numerous channels, repeated attempts to place our extensive evidence before the BBC and their audience with a sustained campaign for a full and comprehensive right to reply, is the BBC finally looking seriously at what we have been saying?

Why did it take a peaceful visit to Catrin Nye’s door — and the weaponised criminalisation of three Lighthouse Associates who went there seeking accountability — before the institution began treating the underlying reality with the gravity it has always demanded?

If you haven’t yet read my open letter to Catrin Nye in full, you can do so by clicking here.

The BBC Had Opportunities Long Before This Letter

The BBC was never deprived of the opportunity to hear us. It repeatedly refused the opportunity to engage with the full body of evidence.

In my letter, I set out the extraordinary imbalance. The BBC spent 18 months and millions of pounds of public money constructing A Very British Cult. At the end of that process, we received an exhaustive list of questions. It took seven recorded hours merely to respond verbally. Properly locating, organising and presenting the supporting evidence would have required months and produced thousands of pages of documentation.

What did the BBC offer against that scale? A few tightly controlled and highly edited minutes inside a production whose governing title, story and ending had already been built.

That was not a meaningful right of reply. It was the appearance of fairness inside a structure incapable of producing fairness.

As I wrote:

“The BBC deliberately deceives the public into believing that everything is rigorously fact-checked and that a genuine and comprehensive right of reply to all claims is granted to a BBC target to prevent life destruction.” — Open letter: God Help Catrin Nye, Section 5, paragraph 1.

When we insisted that we must be allowed to bring our full, concrete evidence, the proposed interview was cancelled. We continued seeking dialogue. We continued offering evidence. We continued asking for open examination. The BBC continued broadcasting, defending and protecting the public identity it had manufactured around us.

This was not one email lost in a bureaucracy. It was a pattern sustained across years.

An Institution Accustomed to Judging Everyone Else

People within the media have described a culture in which BBC personnel can behave like media royalty: elevated above ordinary citizens, accustomed to pronouncing upon everyone else and resistant to the thought that anyone outside the institution possesses the standing and authority to challenge them.

The BBC investigates. The BBC interrogates. The BBC selects the evidence that suits them, defines the frame and delivers the verdict. Then the prestige of the institution gives that verdict the appearance of final truth.

BBC Verify embodies the contradiction. Verification is essential when it means testing claims against evidence. But who verifies the verifier when the BBC’s own reporting is disputed by the citizens whose lives it has altered?

This question is precisely why we have launched Citizen BBC Verify.

Scripture gives us a standard which applies to every human institution:

“In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines.” — Proverbs 18:17

The BBC cannot claim the moral authority to verify the world while insulating its own work from equivalent evidential scrutiny. It cannot demand transparency from governments, companies and citizens while treating scrutiny of itself as intrusion, hostility or harassment.

No institution is above truth. No journalist is above accountability. No broadcaster is above correction.

The Illusion of Institutional Immunity

This is one reason the letter is difficult to dismiss. It does not merely complain about a programme. It challenges the institutional protection surrounding the programme and calls out the human choices beneath it.

I wrote:

“Your strategy has been to hide behind the institutional immunity of the BBC and the establishment you serve, allowing your enablers to keep piling on the life destruction until we break and are forever devastated.” — Open letter: God Help Catrin Nye, Section 4, paragraph 1.1.

I also wrote of the belief that alignment with the State could make those responsible for these decisions appear:

“Untouchable — until the archive strips that illusion away.” — Open letter: God Help Catrin Nye, Section 8, paragraph 5.

The deeper issue of institutional immunity is now confronting the BBC.

This letter is part of a continuing public record. It brings together the denial of a meaningful right of reply, the evidence the BBC would not properly examine, the human consequences of its broadcasting, the personal choices made beneath the corporate name and the concrete path still available towards truth, correction and repair.

The BBC may be accustomed to a citizen eventually exhausting their money, strength, health or courage. It may be accustomed to silence being mistaken for vindication. It may be accustomed to having the final word because those beneath the weight of its platform have no comparable means of answering.

We have not gone away and we never will until this problem is sorted out.

Why Is the Letter Being Taken Seriously?

My analysis is straightforward. The letter is being taken seriously because it closes the distance between institutional power and personal responsibility.

It does not permit Catrin Nye to disappear into the BBC. It does not permit producers and editors to disappear into process. It does not permit executives to say they relied upon the people beneath them while those beneath them say they acted beneath executive authority.

It asks what each person knew, what evidence each person received, what each person chose and why the BBC has continued protecting a falsified public record instead of openly testing it.

It also makes a direct offer:

“Let us fight for truth together: two opponents in combat where the sole winner is truth.” — Open letter: God Help Catrin Nye, Section 2, paragraph 4.

Bring the strongest claims. Bring the sources. Bring the full context. Let me bring our primary evidence. Establish fair conditions, proper time and independent oversight. Allow Christian and secular citizens to see what survives examination.

This public examination of evidence is not an unreasonable challenge to a broadcaster which presents itself as one of the world’s great authorities on truth.

Matthew Brittin Must Decide What “Seriously” Means

Matthew Brittin now carries the responsibilities of the BBC’s Director-General.

Seriously must mean securing and examining the primary evidence. It must mean reviewing the right-of-reply chronology. It must mean asking why offers of substantive evidential engagement were rejected or constrained. It must mean distinguishing what was proved, what was alleged, what was omitted and what was shaped into a predetermined narrative.

Above all, it must mean confronting the diabolical Life Destruction that followed: the public destruction of reputations, identities, livelihoods and future possibility; the breaking of relationships; the severe impact upon health; and the fear imposed upon those who believed they would be targeted if they spoke publicly in our support.

The BBC cannot privately recognise the seriousness of my letter while publicly maintaining the fiction that there is nothing serious to answer.

Will the BBC Treat This Differently?

Will the BBC treat this differently from every other heinous act in its history — from covering up child abuse (see The BBC Paedophilia and Sexual Abuse Register) and other grave violations to what it did to Princess Diana and so many others — where it has never truly accepted responsibility, repented and made right the destruction it caused?

Covering this up, as the BBC has now seen, is not an option. But neither will we allow it to bury the truth beneath the appearance of an inquiry, an internal process or another exercise in institutional self-protection. Nothing short of full responsibility will suffice. The BBC must acknowledge the whole truth, accept responsibility for what it has done and the lives it has destroyed, and make this completely right.

This Is an Opportunity for Truth and Repair

I do not write this because I want the destruction of the BBC or any individual within it. An Anti-Life-Destruction Campaign cannot answer Life Destruction by reproducing it.

I want the false public record corrected.

I want the evidence examined. I want a full, fair and proportionate right of reply. I want responsibility acknowledged and the conditions created for repentance, restitution and restoration.

Jesus Christ is the Truth. Neither Lighthouse nor the BBC owns truth. We are both answerable to Him.

“There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.” — Luke 12:2

If the BBC is finally looking seriously at this letter, then let this be the moment it stops behaving as though its authority places it above the citizens whose lives it is set up to serve.

The door remains open. The evidence is extensive. The invitation stands.

Now the BBC must decide whether taking the letter seriously means managing an institutional problem — or facing the truth and beginning to put right the diabolical Life Destruction it has caused.

May God grant all of us the courage to face the truth, the humility to repent where we have failed and the strength to repair what we have helped destroy.

As you come to the end of this article, ask yourself the following questions:

Do you see how carefully this article is prepared and presented?

Do you see how penetrating it is?

Do you see how true it is?

Do you see how powerful it is in its truth?

The answers to such questions is why the BBC did not allow myself and the team at Lighthouse Global to be involved in the production of their so-called documentary about Lighthouse Global.

In an alleged 18-month sham of a so-called investigation, they tried to hide it from us until two months before broadcast. However, we had discovered their insidious agenda more than 6 months before broadcast and immediately approached them, stating we wanted to be involved.

They initially ignored us because they didn’t want us to be fairly involved in a hit piece about us. In their words, “It is not BBC practice to respond to enquiries of this kind”. In other words, we couldn’t be part of their planned assassination of us. Finally, they deceived the British public by denying that we had proactively approached them for months, even though we have full evidence of this!

Since discovering the broadcast in August 2022, we have spent 4 years demanding the BBC give us a comprehensive right to reply by broadcasting our full evidence to all 140+ false claims made in A Very British Cult, with the same time, effort and money as our false accusers.

I have asked countless times for myself, Paul S. Waugh, who is behind the 22 years of empirical research at Lighthouse Global, to present the full facts, evidence and context live and unedited in real time under the bright lights of the studio. I have challenged the BBC to bring their best journalists, their lawyers, all their sources, all their experts and all their evidence. I’ll bring mine and the aim of this would be simple: to get to the truth.

Yet they simply won’t entertain this, because it was a hit piece.

We’ve demanded this comprehensive right to reply, we’ve pursued all the formal complaint channels, we’ve taken legal advice, we’ve campaigned, we’ve written, we’ve protested, we’re now lobbying, we’re now advocating and doing advocacy work as well as building institutes.

Why?

In order that we, as Christians and members of the public, in the public and human interest, are able to correct the falsified public record.

It’s got to the stage where they cannot even afford to bring attention to our website through their continued efforts in trying to destroy us.

They know that whatever they do is validating us. Any attention they create makes us even more relevant, because we are relevant. As our articles show, our research and work is wholeheartedly in the public interest because it is in the human interest, and ultimately in God’s interest, for His Glory.

Whenever they publish some trash about us, they drive hordes of people to our websites, especially those who are seeking the truth.

As a result they’ve even removed the TV broadcast of A Very British Cult from BBC iPlayer. They’ve been talking about doing a follow-up series for years now, but it keeps getting delayed because they can’t have a real, evidence-based conversation with me.

They simply cannot afford to give us the same time, money, resources and reach to respond to their provably slanderous falsehoods.

We have the evidence in hundreds of thousands of pages to counter their nonsense and the BBC know it.

There’s only one way they can put out as many falsehoods as they have about someone like us. That’s when the party they’re smearing has no voice, no reach and doesn’t have the same resources as the BBC.

Yet for the BBC to atrociously abuse and lie about members of the public, us and others, means we don’t owe them a licence fee. They owe us a refund, and they owe us compensation!

This is not just for us at Lighthouse Global, it’s for the entire British public who’ve been deceived for the last 100 years. We will expose every lie that the public has been forced to pay for.

This will be the work of the institutions that we’re creating.

Through the Class Action Lawsuit we’re now starting against the BBC, the public will get a refund for licence fees paid over at least the last 10 years.

Simply put, the truth cannot be this dispensable in the public interest and in the human interest.

God bless,

Paul S. Waugh

Amen…I pray that this is the turning point, that your open letter will hit a nerve with the BBC’s board and they will finally take this serious. Why not allow a right to reply? Why not permit someone who has been maliciously attacked by lies, be given the right to prove their innocence? So many questions the BBC need to answer. This is another major powerful article, seeking justice, not revenge. A right to correct the record and stand up for the truth, for and with Christ…

It is definitely time that the BBC recognises the seriousness of the situation and that the BBC is not immune to change or to citizens seeing its diabolical behaviour as the mouthpiece of the Establishment. The letter to Catrin Nye shines a light on serious issues within the BBC, and they need to stop blaming others and instead start looking at themselves. It’s time to hold them accountable for their heinous crimes!

Powerful piece. Thank you Paul. The outrageousness of the BBC and those working within it not being truly held accountable till now is astonishing. A powerful series of commentaries, and more to come! Thank you and God bless.

Yet another power explanation for the open letter to Catrin Nye. The BBC’s hubris which its journalists subsequently adopt is being revealed for all to see. There’s a growing disgust and distaste for the mainstream media, but few can articulate the issues involved like Paul S. Waugh is doing. These letters are of high intellect and so need to be broken down to fully appreciate. These aren’t random rants, these are well-structured, logical and comprehensive explanations of what life destruction is and why it needs to be confronted.

I appreciate the way that BBC Verify is called out and how there’s a huge need for Citizen BBC Verify. Loads more to be shared which will inspire hope in all those who want to be able to express what and how they feel about life destruction by the Establishment in a way that doesn’t end up in drunk chats that go nowhere, abusive social media posts that may lead to arrest, or protests that may turn violent. This is able being peaceful and persistent.. shining light on the darkness.

This is power! Not only has this letter laid out why the open letter to Catrin Nye is being taken seriously, but also what taking this letter seriously actually means and what it looks like to now address truth and repair. Matt Brittin cannot claim he does not understand or that he doesn’t know the next right steps to take. By the grace of God, Paul has laid everything out thoroughly and clearly, and so the BBC must take the personal choices of Catrin Nye and everyone involved in producing the abomination A Very British Cult, and examine them seriously, conscientiously and rigorously and make this right.

The BBC may have a new Director General, but the importance of this situation cannot be understated and they cannot avoid this forever. If the BBC’s claims were so strong and robust, they would be able to withstand scrutiny and debate. The fact that they do not want to enter that debate tells you everything.

I’m waiting for the BBC performance around this. You’ve hit the point massively: if the BBC was serious, they’d investigate fully and sincerely. That’s why I say ‘performative’, because they’re only presenting themselves this way for public trust, so they can follow their agenda. The BBC are a mouthpiece, not for the public, but for those who want to control the public. The more truth is revealed, the more what is false has the light shining upon it.

No institution is immune from examination and especially when that institution is responsible for broadcast to the nation, and is funded by the nation!
The BBC needs to be the most examined institution and the most open to a full and fair right of reply by all those involved in it’s programming.
As The BBC gave the accusers of Lighthouse 18 months to prepare and tell their account, so The BBC must give 18 months to Lighthouse to do the same and give it’s account. Only by such fair and unedited means, can we all seek the truth in, through and with God.
