This is a concise, seven-question summary of my complete open letter to Catrin Nye and the BBC:
- why I wrote this open letter,
- what the BBC’s reporting did to Lighthouse Global,
- why its offered right of reply was wholly inadequate,
- what correction, accountability and reconciliation are now required.
1. Why did I write the open letter now?
For two years, a court case constrained what Lighthouse Global could say publicly while the BBC’s false documentary and podcasts remained in the public domain. That period has now ended. Institutional power, lawfare, exhaustion and stigma must not allow an imposed falsehood to become permanent by default.
My open letter is not a sanitised corporate statement. It comes from what we, at Lighthouse Global, have lived through. I have not hidden my anger, exhaustion, sarcasm or resentment. Beneath these very real human emotions lies a profound sadness, for the citizens who were deceived, for those whose lives were devastated and even for BBC staff caught within an institution that has lost its moral compass.
I categorically condemn threats, harassment or harm against Catrin Nye, Jamie Bartlett and their families. I call only for peaceful, legal and responsible action. My purpose is truth, correction and reconciliation, not malice. Jesus Christ said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Truth belongs neither to Lighthouse Global nor the BBC to manufacture. We all stand subject to Him.
See The Moment of Verdict and Sections 1 and 3 of the complete letter.
2. What did the BBC’s reporting do?
Through A Very British Cult and its podcasts, the BBC did not merely criticise an organisation. It constructed and distributed a false public identity of Lighthouse Global to millions globally. Facts were manipulated, essential context omitted, records ignored and hostile claims treated as reliable testimony. Human beings disappeared beneath characters fabricated for a production.
The consequences to Lighthouse were devastating: death threats, digital pile-ons, public stigma and attacks on identities, credibility, relationships, livelihoods, health and future possibility. Highly fragile individuals suffered severe mental-health crises, including suicide attempts. The letter describes this as systematic diabolical Life Destruction by institutional power and by proxy.
The BBC spent approximately eighteen months preparing its production while controlling the sources, questions, framing, editing, timetable and final word. Lighthouse holds recordings, messages, correspondence and witnesses capable of completely refuting its central claims. Journalists, producers, editors, lawyers and executives each made choices about what to include, omit, approve, broadcast and defend. Nobody at Lighthouse can hide behind Lighthouse. Nobody at the BBC can hide behind the BBC.
3. Did Lighthouse receive a meaningful right of reply?
No. Contacting the target near the end of a hit-piece production for conditional final “any last words” is not an evidence-capable opportunity to answer.
After approximately eighteen months of preparation, the BBC delivered an exhaustive list of points relating to allegations made about myself and Lighthouse, but it took seven recorded hours merely to answer them verbally. Locating and structuring the complete primary records would have required months of concentrated work and thousands of pages. Against that burden, the offer of a clandestine interview without adequate evidential preparation was wholly unacceptable inside a production whose title, angle and perspective had already been established.
As I wrote, it offered “a few conditional, final words before you pulled the trapdoor on the production, hooded and roped.” — Full open letter, Section 5, paragraph 1
When Lighthouse insisted on bringing the concrete evidence necessary to challenge the accusations, the proposed interview was cancelled. The pretence of fairness remained; the practical capacity to defend the work at Lighthouse and lives under accusation did not.
See Section 5, paragraphs 1–4.
4. How does the letter explain the BBC’s conduct?
I present four scenarios for testing. A Very British Cult was:
- A deliberate, institutionally supported smear and diabolical Life Destruction campaign.
- Sensationalism and a predetermined narrative taking precedence over truth, context and journalistic ethics.
- Gross investigative incompetence turning hostile, unverified material into national programming.
- A combination: incompetence becoming sensationalism, sensationalism becoming a weapon, and ideological hostility protecting the result from correction.
These are possible explanations, not four independently determined findings. The BBC cannot resolve them by repeating its authority. It must disclose its process, expose its claims to the complete records and allow its preferred explanation to compete with the alternatives under conditions it does not control.
See Section 5, paragraph 5.
5. What evidential test do I propose?
I have repeatedly invited Catrin Nye and the BBC to bring their strongest claims and principal sources, while Lighthouse brings the complete records. Select five to ten central accusations, appoint independent moderation, give both sides equivalent time to present and question evidence, and prevent either side from controlling the edit or retaining an unanswerable final word.
As I wrote: “Let us fight for truth together: two opponents in combat where the sole winner is truth.” — Full open letter, Section 2, paragraph 4
Refusal alone does not prove every Lighthouse conclusion correct. It does, however, keep the BBC’s account insulated from the most direct public test available. Sound journalism should survive open examination. Errors on either side should be exposed. Jesus warned against seeing the speck in another’s eye while ignoring the plank in our own (Matthew 7:3–5). That standard governs Lighthouse and the BBC alike.
6. What would genuine correction require?
Private compensation cannot correct a false identity distributed globally. Families, employers, authorities and citizens cannot reconsider what they were told if the evidence and correction remain hidden.
“The start of absolute rectification does not begin with an out-of-court check; it begins with granting us a full, fair, and resource-backed platform.” — Full open letter, Section 7, paragraph 3
My proposed baseline is a five-hour broadcast response corresponding to the BBC’s documentary and podcast output, with equivalent resources, distribution, reach and independent oversight.
The order is clear:
- Correction: establish the truth and correct the public record.
- Compensation: address evidenced suffering and material consequences.
- Reform: determine who knew what, which safeguards failed and what must change to prevent further diabolical Life Destruction.
This does not require the BBC to concede everything beforehand. It requires a process capable of discovering and correcting the truth.
7. Is the door still open?
Yes. My purpose is not to destroy Catrin Nye or anyone at the BBC. Accountability without concern for a person’s soul can become another form of destruction. I remain concerned about what these choices have done not only to Lighthouse, but to the consciences, relationships and standing before Christ of those responsible.
The same standard must judge me and Lighthouse. “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another” (1 John 1:7). Christian reconciliation is not suppressed truth, impunity or optical repentance. It requires confession, correction, restitution and changed conduct.
I will continue building the public campaign to correct the false record and document diabolical Life Destruction affecting Christian and secular citizens. Yet the door remains open to calm, mature resolution grounded in evidence: establish what is true, false and genuinely disputed; correct the public record; repair what can be repaired; accept proportionate consequences; and seek repentance, restoration and reconciliation without sacrificing truth.

I appreciate how the analysis of Paul’s open letter to Catrin Nye continues. A while ago she mockingly said that we have a lot of time on our hands. Now Catrin Nye and the world are seeing the thoroughness of our work to ensure that the truth and reality of the BBC’s life-destruction work is presented to all truth-seeking citizens across the globe.
Catrin Nye and The BBC did not put Lighthouse on trial (that would have been, and is welcomed, since the full facts and contexts would be examined) they went straight to a guilty verdict and to execution.
At least they tried to, as that strategy has worked successfully for them in the past. Now the truth is being revealed for the public to see and judge based on facts in full context.
A great letter and a great summary exposing a great wrong that has been done in the name of journalism and the public interest. If anyone hasn’t read the letter in its entirety they really should.
A powerful and important summary of what is ultimately being asked for: not blind acceptance of either side, but an open examination of the evidence where claims can be tested and the truth established. The willingness to have Lighthouse’s own claims scrutinised by the same standard makes this a genuine invitation to accountability, correction and reconciliation. Let’s see if and how the BBC will respond! Thank you.
Thank you for providing a summary of your open letter, Paul, and for laying out what is in each part and why. As you’ve shared here, neither you nor we want harm to come to Catrin Nye; we want her to repent and ultimately to know the love of Christ, as we are all learning about and experiencing ourselves.
May she face the truth, and may everyone at the BBC—past, present and future—do the same. Thank you. 🙏
Truth does not need revenge to prevail; it needs to be brought into the light, tested honestly and allowed to produce whatever correction is necessary. That is the heart of genuine accountability. I really appreciate how this brings the whole open letter into such a clear and powerful framework of series of main questions. Thank you for giving use the essentials of the impactful letter. God bless you x
This is brilliant because core, concise points are laid out here to make it explicitly clear the context to the letter, what the letter explains and the solutions to address this issue. Every reader can see for themselves, exactly what we have had to deal with for over five years when solutions are achievable.
We want to correct the record; we are not out for revenge, we are seeking justice. I ask that those who read these articles read the letter in its entirety to feel the compassion that is there from Paul. As in this article, he is not out to destroy them; that was what Nye and the BBC were out to do to Paul and Lighthouse.
I will continue to pray for them…
