A Study: Why the Establishment’s War on Our God‑Given Potential Will Fail – By Paul S. Waugh

Editor’s note (living overview): This article is a growing synthesis of Lighthouse Daily Updates and related sessions on the establishment and our God‑given potential. It will be revised as new daily updates and research become available, so that readers have one place to follow the unfolding picture.

Over the last week I’ve been sharing something that has taken me more than two decades of research, blood, sweat, tears and prayer to see clearly: why the establishment has gone to such extreme lengths to destroy the work of Lighthouse Global and those we are helping to realise their God‑given potential.

This piece brings together – in one place – key insights from the Lighthouse Daily Updates of 14th-19th December 2025, along with a recent session on education and personal growth, to show you the bigger picture of what we are dealing with – not only as Christians, but as citizens, parents, sons and daughters in this world.

This isn’t entertainment. This is about life and death, bondage and freedom, darkness and light.

1. The Problem Underneath All Problems: We Were Never Taught About Ourselves as Human Beings

On 14th and 18th December, I spoke about something so basic, so obvious, that it is shocking we have to say it at all:

The one thing we are not taught at school is our humanness.

If I ask you about a car, you can tell me about the engine, the wheels, the chassis, the fuel. But if I ask: “What is a human being made of? What are the main components of a person?” most people cannot answer. Not because they are stupid, but because they have never been educated in what it means to be human.

We were not taught:

  • Our four human endowments – self‑awareness, conscience, imagination and independent will.
  • How those endowments operate at the levels of body, heart, mind and spirit.
  • What “human potential” really is, how to understand it, and how to develop it in a disciplined, practical way over a lifetime.
  • How to relate all of this to God, to our calling in Christ, and to the people we are responsible for.

Instead, home and school were framed around maintenance and compliance:

  • Bum‑wiping, feeding yourself, basic reading, writing and arithmetic.
  • Learning to “perform” for exams and statistics.
  • Developing a social image consciousness to fit in and get by.

We were processed:

  • For the industrial age – to work in factories and offices.
  • Then for the knowledge‑worker age – to serve systems that already existed.
  • Now for the digital and AI age – where we are being increasingly monitored and controlled.

At no serious level were we educated to understand who we are in God, who we are as human beings, and what our God‑given potential actually is.

That is not an accident. It is a design. It is an education betrayal – we were trained for the establishment, not for ourselves or for God.

2. Understanding “The Establishment”: The House That Is Set Up To Win

On 14th and 15th December I began to spell out what I mean by “the establishment”.

People sense something is wrong. They talk about:

  • Two‑tier policing
  • A two‑tier justice system
  • “The haves and the have‑nots”

What they are really describing is one system with two classes of citizen:

  1. The establishment – an infinitely small fraction of the population: old money, intergenerational families, political dynasties, corporate and financial elites, media barons, judicial and agency heads, their inner circles and their henchmen.
  2. Everybody else – you, me, our parents, our children, the masses.

This establishment:

  • Built and shaped many of the major institutions – elite schools, universities, banks, media outlets, state bureaucracies.
  • Designed an education system not around human potential, but around the needs of the factory, the office and the financial system.
  • Operates like a casino or a rigged house: the rules, the referees, the cards, the chips and the dealer all belong, ultimately, to the same small class of people.

I am not anti‑establishment in the childish, revolutionary sense. I am anti‑ignorance of the establishment.

If we do not understand how it works, where its boundaries are, how it sees us and our children, and how it reacts when threatened, then we will forever be shocked, confused and duped.

3. Inside‑In vs Outside‑In: How the System Keeps Us Shallow

Across the 17th and 18th December updates, I contrasted the inside‑in work of character and conscience with the outside chase for money, image and credentials – and showed how structurally tilted our world is against that inside‑in growth.

What passes for “education” is mostly:

  • Memory and performance.
  • Social graces and conformity.
  • Passing exams inside systems that were never designed for your flourishing.

What is missing is:

  • Personal, relational, problem‑solving capacity.
  • Formation of heart, mind, spirit and will.
  • The ability to see and steward your God‑given material and relational value.

The foundation has become: reading, writing and interpreting – but not the formation of the human being.

Parents think they have done their job if a child can read, dress themselves, and get a job. Schools think they have succeeded if the statistics look good. Meanwhile, the actual human is left underdeveloped and then told, “Now it’s up to you,” precisely when the critical window for basic formation has already closed.

This is not just bad design. It is spiritually negligent to claim you are “doing this all for the children” while structurally blocking them from the growth that would make them free.

4. When Does The Establishment Become A Danger To Us?

On 15th December, I asked a crucial question:

When does the establishment become a danger to us?

The answer is painfully simple:

The establishment becomes a danger to us when we become a danger to them.

They are concerned above all with value and control.

  • The value they currently hold – human, material and financial.
  • The value they want to accumulate.
  • The degree of control they have over that value, and over the people who produce it.

They can tolerate a certain amount of “success” among ordinary citizens – as long as it stays below a glass ceiling they control. They can cope with the odd Elon Musk or Richard Branson. They can even cope with a disruptive politician for a season.

What they cannot allow is:

  • Large numbers of citizens who understand their true potential.
  • Families, churches, communities and organisations coming together to develop that potential in reality, not just in theory.
  • People moving, in Christ or even at a basic human level, from institutionalised dependency to mature, responsible agency.

At that point, we are no longer simply consumers or voters. We are competitors. We become a danger to their monopoly on value, narrative and control.

And when we become a danger to them, they will use every system they control – media, regulators, courts, professional bodies, financial systems – to become a danger to us.

5. The Dark Art of Controlling Our Potential

On 19th December I went deeper into the establishment’s dark art of controlling our potential.

The establishment is obsessed with value – but so are you and I:

  • God’s value and God’s standards.
  • The people we love.
  • Our own life, purpose, work and material needs.

On the surface we have something in common: we all care about value. The difference is this:

  • The establishment is interested in their value.
  • When it comes to your value and my value, they are only interested enough to keep us from becoming too unhappy or too disruptive.

We live in what is effectively a zero‑sum system: there is only so much to go around. The more value the masses gain, individually and collectively, the less the establishment gets. So they become obsessed with control.

They turn that control into a dark art that makes us feel we should be grateful for the little we are given:

  • “At least you have a job.”
  • “At least you have the NHS.”
  • “At least you live in a country like the UK or the USA. Look how much worse it is elsewhere.”

So when the establishment “gives” us something, it is often to maintain an illusion:

  • The illusion that we live in a special country that is “better than most”.
  • The illusion that the system is basically fair and that our opportunities are enough.

The real issue is not whether one country is better than another. The real issue is that you and I should have the same opportunities to develop and exercise our potential, even if outcomes differ.

Instead, we are educated and socialised on limitation all the time. They use:

  • The media as continuous propaganda.
  • The school system.
  • The social and cultural fabric.
  • Even parenting norms.

All of this quietly teaches us that we are less, that we should not expect too much, that certain ceilings are “just the way things are.”

The biggest area of control, where the establishment hits us first and hardest, is our potential itself. Most people:

  • Cannot name the principles of human potential.
  • Cannot explain what makes them valuable as a person.
  • Have never been taught what a human being actually is.

When you do not know what your potential is, skill and effort cannot scale, because there is no foundation of knowledge. This is where the establishment begins its control: they simply do not educate you about your potential.

6. Top Line and Bottom Line: How They Link God, Humanity and Money

In the 19th December update, I described how all value can be understood as top line and bottom line:

  • Top line: God and human value
    • Theochristological value.
    • Human, relational, spiritual value.
    • The value of who you are before God and among people.
  • Bottom line: material and financial value
    • Income, assets, resources.
    • The material outcomes of life.

The bottom line is always being talked about. “What’s the bottom line?” usually means “How much does this cost?” or “What’s the financial result?”

But here is the key:

All material and financial value is determined by the potential of the top line – your potential in God and your potential as a human being.

If that top‑line potential is thwarted through omissions in:

  • Culture.
  • Education.
  • Parenting.
  • Media.
  • Social norms and trends.

Then the fabric of society is weakened and, more importantly, the fabric of the human being is torn.

This is how the establishment does it:

  • They persuade you not to know God or to feel stupid for believing.
  • They keep you ignorant of who you are and what you could become.
  • They never teach you the law of potential and the principles of human and godly potential.

Meanwhile, their own children – the establishment child, the Rothschild, the Carnegie, the entrenched family name – are raised on the opposite foundation:

  • Told from birth that they are special, that they have a name to uphold.
  • Given a belief system of “we can do anything we need to do” (legally, and sometimes illegally).
  • Trained and mentored to carry that name and power forward.

The working‑class child instead asks:

  • “Where are the jobs?”
  • “Where is the best pay?”
  • “What can I do given my limited academic ability?”
  • “How do I just survive and maybe get a bit of time off?”

Different beliefs, different education, different opportunities, different mentoring – and so you get vastly different bottom‑line outcomes.

The top line (identity, belief, understanding of potential) drives the bottom line (material and financial realities). That is why mentoring, coaching, counselling, leadership, scholarship, learning how to learn and research, learning to face challenges and solve problems – all of that top‑line development – is essential.

7. Why Lighthouse Global Was Really Attacked

For a long time I asked myself:

  • Why would the BBC spend millions attacking a tiny research‑based organisation like Lighthouse Global?
  • Why weaponise the Insolvency Service, the courts, and a smear campaign through A Very British Cult over a small group mentoring people on their personal growth?
  • Why brand us a “group of concern” and throw everything at us?

Was it really about online refund complaints? Was it really a few unhappy ex‑associates and parents? No. Those were props and pretexts.

I had to face a brutal truth:

We were attacked because we were finding out too many truths about human potential and the establishment’s role in suppressing it – and we were helping people to wake up.

For over 21 years we have:

  • Researched why people do not realise their potential – spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, financially.
  • Exposed how family systems, schooling and culture have been shaped to keep people infantilised and institutionalised, even as adults.
  • Built mechanisms for action, not just theory – mentoring, accountability, character development, sacrificial service, not just “feel good” self‑help.
  • Brought all of this under the lordship of Jesus Christ, with a vision of a body of believers “yoked up, arm in arm” to say “yes” where we ought to say yes to the vulnerable, the widows, the orphans, the enemies we are commanded to love.

This is not a motivational seminar. This is warfare – over whether people remain bound to the house, or become who God created them to be.

The establishment tolerates the self‑help industry precisely because most of it has no mechanisms for follow‑through. People buy books, feel good for a week, and then go back to sleep.

Lighthouse has insisted on something much more dangerous:

Do not just read about potential. Live it. Apply it. Pay the price. Grow. Serve. Build.

That is when we moved from being a curiosity to being a threat.

8. Demonisation: How They Hide the Truth

Linked to these attacks is one of the establishment’s most effective tactics: demonisation.

If they cannot refute the truth, they attack the messenger:

  • “Paul is a bad man.”
  • “His work is boring, do not listen.”
  • “Do not listen to this person, they lied before.”

Whether what they say about me is true or a lie does not change whether a train is coming.

If a child killer and rapist warned you that a train was about to hit your family, would you ignore the warning because of who said it? Of course not. The truth about the oncoming train does not depend on the moral perfection of the person who points it out.

In the same way, the evidence of:

  • Establishment abuse.
  • Media manipulation.
  • The stunting of our potential.

…does not change just because they say I am a terrible person.

The facts are the facts. The truth is the truth. The establishment’s control of your potential is real, regardless of what they say about me or about Lighthouse.

9. The Spiritual Reality Behind The Institutions

On 17th December, I joined the dots between what we are seeing in the world and what Scripture has been telling us for two thousand years.

The Bible is very clear:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

— Ephesians 6:12

These are not poetic metaphors. They describe the spiritual architecture of the Kingdom of Darkness.

  • Principalities – the spiritual essences that sit over territories, systems, cultures and spheres of life.
  • Powers and rulers – the structuring forces that shape laws, norms, incentives and expectations.
  • Spiritual wickedness in high places – evil operating through those who sit in high office, in boardrooms, in editorial meetings, in agencies and courts.

The modern establishment is the material manifestation of these principalities and powers. It is Satan’s infrastructure.

That means:

  • Our battle is not ultimately against individual journalists, bureaucrats or politicians.
  • They are often duped, compromised or drunk on their own power, and they need repentance and salvation as much as anyone else.
  • But the systems they serve – when they suppress truth, crush the vulnerable, destroy reputations through lies and weaponise processes to exhaust and bankrupt people – are demonic in origin and operation.

This is why a Christian realising their God‑given potential is an absolute danger to them.

Because:

  • When a believer grows in character and competence, anchored in Christ, they become hard to manipulate.
  • When families and churches awaken to the reality of this spiritual and institutional war, their prayer, repentance and action begin to break chains.
  • When citizens start to see the macro‑problem – not just the latest scandal – they begin to strike at the root, not just the branches.

10. “If You Present Me With A Problem, I Will Solve It”

In a recent session on education and personal growth, I shared from my heart something that summarises how I see all of this:

“If you present me, Paul Waugh, with a problem – whether it is a problem the establishment has created, or one that affects my brothers and sisters in Christ, or citizens of the world – I am going to solve it.

I am going to solve it in God, in the body of Christ, with the Spirit of God. I will spearhead it if I need to. I will delegate and support if I need to. But I will not walk away.”

For over 20 years, the “problem” that has burned in my heart is this:

The problem of our God‑given potential being cut off, suppressed, ridiculed, pathologised and even criminalised.

I have been studying:

  • Educational reform efforts going back more than a century – many of which were crushed or sidelined because they sought to address “the inner life” of the child.
  • How schools removed serious teaching about character, conscience, spiritual reality and human potential, replacing it with external subjects and exam factories.
  • How the few places where the heart, mind and spirit are developed together – mentoring, discipleship, accountable community – are smeared as “cults” precisely because they are effective.

So when the BBC, acting for the establishment, attacked Lighthouse, they made a catastrophic mistake:

They presented the problem directly to someone who has spent decades solving it.

They exposed themselves. They forced me to go deeper, wider and further back in history than ever before. They made me look at the whole beast, not just one of its heads.

And in doing so, they turned their intended demolition job into a launchpad for a far more powerful, comprehensive and global work than anything I had planned.

11. Loving Your Neighbour Means Developing Your Neighbour

In the 15th, 17th and 18th December updates I spoke about my own years of work, pain and sacrifice in the area of human potential. Here I want to tie that directly to the Great Commandment.

Jesus commands us to love our neighbour. That is not sentimental. It is not “nice feelings” at a distance.

Loving your neighbour means being involved in their progress.

Loving your neighbour means developing your neighbour.

If God wants His body to grow – and He does – then:

  • Helping someone discover their God‑given potential.
  • Walking with them as they build character and competence.
  • Holding them accountable to the truth about who they are and can be.

…is not an optional side project. It is obedience.

That is why this work is costly, misunderstood, and yet completely non‑negotiable.

12. The Forthcoming Publications: Christians & Citizens vs The Establishment

This is why we are now preparing two major publications, as shared on 15th and 16th December:

  1. Christians and the Establishment Problem: Setting Our Boundaries and Protecting Them in Christ
  2. Citizens v. the Establishment: Compete or Comply

These are basic introductions to much more extensive research, designed so that both Christians and secular citizens can:

  • Understand what the establishment is – historically, structurally, spiritually and practically.
  • See how it operates through education, media, family systems, law and finance.
  • Recognise the tactics used to intimidate, isolate, smear and destroy those who threaten its control.
  • Learn what healthy boundaries look like – for churches, families, organisations and individual believers.
  • Begin to separate from unhealthy dependency on the establishment without descending into anarchism, hatred or paranoia.
  • Re‑centre on our God‑given potential, callings and responsibilities – to widows, orphans, enemies, neighbours, the vulnerable and the lost.

We are doing this not to create revolutionaries who burn things down, but:

To raise responsible, awake, truth‑loving men and women who can see clearly, love deeply, serve sacrificially and hold evil to account without becoming evil themselves.

13. Love Your Enemies – And Hold Them To Account

It is vital to say this:

I am not anti‑establishment. I am anti‑Satan.

I am anti‑ignorance. I am anti‑the abuse of power. I am anti‑children and vulnerable people being crushed by systems that claim to serve them.

The establishment is not outside God’s mission field. They are part of it.

  • Christ died for establishment figures as much as for the poorest child on earth.
  • Many within those systems are afraid, compromised, confused or half‑blind.
  • We must pray for them, love them, and wherever possible call them to repentance and reform, not annihilation.

But loving your enemies does not mean enabling their abuse.

It means:

  • Telling the truth, even when it costs you your reputation.
  • Refusing to be duped, even when conformity is rewarded.
  • Standing between the vulnerable and the boot that is on their neck.
  • Holding liars and slanderers to account, not out of vengeful hate, but out of love for justice, love for the victims, and even love for the perpetrators’ souls.

That is why we continue to hold individual BBC journalists and executives, government agencies and other actors to account, while praying for their reform and salvation.

14. A Call To Wakefulness, Courage and Growth in Potential

If you have read this far and you resonate strongly with what I am sharing, then regardless of your indoctrination, you are sensitive to truth and reality when you see it.

My plea to you is simple:

  1. Do not go back to sleep.

Once you begin to see the establishment paradigm – the two‑tier system, the spiritual forces behind it, the deliberate suppression of human potential – you cannot unsee it without doing damage to your soul.
  2. Do not get lost in the noise.

The establishment will throw chaos, outrage, distraction and spectacle at you. If you are fighting their stories but not growing in your God‑given potential, they have already won.
  3. Grow. Deeply.

In Christ, in conscience, in character, in competence. In your ability to love, think, work, build and stand. That is the one thing Satan and his establishment cannot afford.
  4. Protect your boundaries.

In your family, church, workplace and community. Learn what is yours under God to say “yes” to, and what you must say “no” to, even at great cost.
  5. Pray. Repent. Obey.

This is not primarily an intellectual project. It is spiritual. Without God’s Spirit, this work would have been impossible, and I would not even still be alive to write this.
  6. Learn the language of potential.

Do not be content with vague feelings about “potential”. Learn what it is. Learn the law of potential. Learn how your four endowments, your body, heart, mind and spirit, fit together in God. Help your children to learn it early so they are not playing catch‑up at forty or fifty.

15. Closing: The Problem We Will Solve

To separate a human being from their God‑given potential is inhuman. It is satanic. It is the sum of all problems in this world.

To educate generations of children who can explain the components of a motor car but not the components of their own humanness is an atrocity, whether through incompetence or evil.

The establishment – old and new – has, over centuries, built a house where “the house always wins” by keeping the masses asleep, divided and underdeveloped.

By the grace of God, we are not going to let that stand unchallenged.

If you present me with the problem of crushed potential, I will spend the rest of my life, for as long as God grants me breath, working in Christ and with the body of Christ to solve it. Not just for Lighthouse, but for humanity.

This is not my work. It is the Lord’s. It is His timing. It is His revelation. It is His protection.

May He wake us up, grow us up, and send us out.

Lots of love. God bless you. Look after yourselves and your loved ones. Do not get used to these warnings. Sit with them. Pray over them. Ask what you will do differently in these last days.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Paul S. Waugh

Thank you so much for this, Paulie. This was such an eye-opening and strengthening read for me. It really helped me see more clearly how our God-given potential has been suppressed, not just through systems and structures, but at a deeper spiritual level. I’m so grateful for the way you consistently point us back to truth, discernment, and who we are in Christ. This was both sobering and deeply encouraging. Thank you for your faithfulness, courage, and obedience to God. God bless you always 🙏

Thank you Paul for hitting home that our focus needs to be on our God-given potential and how the establishment will do anything to distract us from it, so that we lose at their expense. I just look at one area for example entertainment. It’s 24/7 on TV even compared to 30 years ago and this is just one facet of our lives!

Great point! Compared to how much media there is on our human potential… next to zero!

Thank you for all these articles on the establishment and on how they limit and control our God-given potential. It’s so powerful to see the connection between how people are educated, how value is defined, and how freedom in Christ truly works. We were never taught who we are as human beings, nor how to grow our potential in God and in the world. Seeing how this plays out in institutions, culture and upbringing is eye-opening, freeing and shocking at the same time.

I appreciate the realisations that understanding our identity, value and potential in Christ is absolutely crucial and life-changing. We need to increase our ability to serve our children and the vulnerable and understand what value really is and how it is built. God bless you for this work and for helping us see the bigger picture.

What’s a really bitter pill is that I’m a grown up now, and my childhood years of truly learning and absorbing are behind me. I can’t as easily unlearn and learn what I once could. I know this has been immensely frustrating both for paul and us in Lighthouse – how difficult it is to make fundamental paradigm shifts. But for the Grace of God, to have my and our eyes opened up to a) the reality of the establishment and b) the need to act accordingly to pursue my potential, value at the highest level, all based on an unrelenting commitment to truth. The ‘matrix’ was defined by the character of Morpheus in one word: control. An invisible slave master running billions of people as slaves is truly ingenious. So dark and controlling against the natural realisation of our potential. Paul, your determined commitment to your and our potential is precious. You’ve fought hard to stay alive and keep growing deep down in your soul and I appreciate more, how essential this is. That is precisely why the attacks on you and us have not only been revealing, but catalysing.

Just to add to this (I actually meant to write Genesis 50:20, not 5:20 as an aside).. the whole point that Paul makes, that we have not learn about ourselves, is such a huge reality check. It is clearly true, yet also so hard to comprehend because of that very syndrome. How does someone who’s never known what a human being really is, all of a sudden learn what a human being is, after years of intense conditioning to believe they’re just a meat machine? Personally, I believe through the Spirit and Grace of God, and as Paul often says, a commitment to ruthlessly finding the truth, when it really hurts and is not convenient at all.

When Paul mentioned the fabric of human being being torn, I really struggled to ground myself. The human life is sacred and through our ignorance of the establishment, they have been allowed to desecrate our souls, to cause the desecration of many generations of souls to boot. There is just nothing more evil than encouraging the greatest sin, our separation from God.

The greatest hope is in Christ and Paul’s work really helps to practically address the layered sabotage of the human soul by the establishment. One the most powerful distinctions he shares is about one of the greatest threats to the establishment, the development of a believer. So, when a believer develops in character and competence, grounded in Christ, they become harder to manipulate! This is my focus as well as appreciating the guidance under the call to wakefulness, courage and growth in potential.

These articles are monumental…the foundational work here is critical as we move into another year of change, transition and now, intentional and purposeful progress 🙏

This is indeed an epic study that’s growing, developing and evolving in a way that’s substantial, pragmatic and real.

I look at all the messages that are being pumped out through the education system, government policy and the mainstream media. I don’t see anything that comes close to this and for very good reason.

It’s the depth and substance of research coming out now that are showing exactly why Paul Waugh and us at Lighthouse have been attacked and smeared over the last 4-5 years.

Why else would millions of pounds be spent on trying to destroy a small, unknown group of people?

If the establishment really cared about people, then surely hitting the major causes of death and illness would be a far bigger priority than a vitriolic group of bitter ex-clients and jealous family members?

It all makes no logical sense until you understand the establishment and its motives along with Lighthouse and its work. Now it makes perfect sense, which means the establishment is revealing itself more and more.

This video gives a bit of insight into how the establishment is operating: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DSa8kCAEaVg/

I deeply greatly appreciate the exceptional depth of the wisdom shared, and also the way it’s communicated for us to learn this. Something worthwhile is worthwhile being repeated again and again. This is the most important information in our modern age…we’re not crazy, there is something fundamental for real and you’re unveiling it for us all. This here is best Christmas gift bar meeting Christ personally.

A system of study I need to introduce and to study with others to ensure I don’’t miss morsel of what’s here.

What the media do and don’t show is very revealing. The BBC will invest hundreds of thousands, if not millions on a series about (the theory of) human evolution, but nothing on the compelling evidence for creation that completely debunks the theory (not fact or law) of evolution. That would completely dismantle decades of anti-God propaganda that’s been pushed into the minds of innocent children.

Thank you for this summary of vital and key points about what forces really shape our world.
I grew up believing and thinking that that the world was fair, right and just but the reality is not so clear cut.
In so many areas there are compromises and injustices that promote one tier over another without any true and honest foundation.
Here is the beginning of the work to restore humanity to where it ought to be.
